CHANDIGARH: Let's pledge to make earth a better place to live in. To spread this message and create awareness among the public, a rally was organized by the students of Arts College in Sector 10. The rally started at 2.30pm from Sector 10 and reached its final destination Punjab Student Centre, Sector 14, at 4.30pm. The rally aimed at inspiring the youth to plant trees and spreading the word of using CNG vehicles rather than petrol and diesel vehicles.
“We should stop for a minute in the rat race that we call living and think about what we are doing to our environment. Besides being expensive, diesel emits harmful gases, including carbon dioxide, which is a green house gas linked to global climate change. We should minimize its usage because the furure is our choice,” said Satinder Sapru, one of the volunteer.
“The disadvantage of harmful emissions produced by diesel creates serious health problems for human beings as well as animals,” added Gaurav Sharma, a student of Arts College.
And resolving to make a positive change, another volunteer Ranjeet Singh, said, “The idea is to enthuse and ignite other youngsters to wake up and take charge of their planet. And in a bid to do so we want to encourage youth to grow more trees in their college as it’s not only good for health but also makes the college premises beautiful.” “The idea of organizing this rally came to us with the recent petrol hike. We have to look at ways in which we can help ourselves and CNG usage is the way to go. Its environment friendly and less expensive, too,” said Nayan M Kalita, one of the volunteers.
